Umoja Wetu Children’s project, a part of CRCI, was founded by Nelson, Mirjam, Esther, Rob and Anne. It is a pre-nursery unit, located in Umoja, one of Thika slums. It started to take care of young children who are not able to develop themselves enough at home. This can be due to malnutrition and/or under stimulation. In the project, 15 children between 3-5 years old get food and basic education. The goal is that they will only need one year of nursery school before going to (free) primary school. The children are coming from Monday to Friday; following class from 8 am to 3 pm. While they’re in school, they’ll get nutritious meals. The caretaker of Umoja visit the family of the children twice a week, so problems can be observed and solved where possible.
